Welcome to The KOALA Project
The KOALA Project is a not for profit association established to provide educational assistance to the children of Kilimahewa Village in Moshi, Tanzania.
Kilimahewa Nursery School is a small independent Nursery School. I was fortunate enough to be placed at this school during a volunteer placement in 2010. The School is solely operated by Mr Pius Massawe and his wife Susan.
Currently catering to over 70 students from the local Kilimahewa district, Mr Massawe has dreams to one day be able to provide education, accommodation and care for children who have been left orphaned by the tragic AIDS epidemic in Africa.
In July 2011 I returned to Moshi and Kilimahewa, and through the very generous contributions of family and friends was able to complete some small sustainability projects at the school to help them become more self sufficient. With $3000 we were able to build a fence around the school which provides security and keeps animals from eating the maize that is used to make porridge. We also built a chicken coup, complete with 200 chickens that are now laying eggs. The eggs are sold at local markets to generate an income for the school as well as being fed to the children to increase their protein consumption.
I now return to Tanzania every year, and through The KOALA Project we have committed to support Mr Massawe and achieve our dream to become a fully independent Pre and Primary School providing education to the children of Kilimahewa. Every time I return I am so excited to see the progress we have made, since I first started in 2010 - we are making a world of difference to this school and these children.
It is my dream to continue to help this small amazing little school, and in any way possible, put some happiness and hope in these children's lives. Please read further for more information about our little school and projects we have done or are planning to complete. If you would like to contribute or donate please go to the the "How you can help" tab and follow the prompts, any contribution large all small will be very much appreciated.
Thanks and Regards
