Who am I and Why Do I Do This ?
Hello, My Name is Sara and I believe no matter how busy we are, or how small the gesture, we can all make a difference to those less fortunate than ourselves.
I currently live in Melbourne, Australia and try to travel to Tanzania every year to complete projects that allow the School to become more sustainable and improve it's service to the children of the Kilimahewa Community.
I was fortunate enough to meet Mr Massawe and the wonderful children of Kilimahewa Nursery School during a 'career break' in 2010, where I spent 2 months living and working in Moshi, Tanzania.
in 2010, I worked with Mr Massawe to assist in teaching the 4 and 5 year old students basic English, Numeracy and Literary skills. Following my placement in 2010, I remained in close contact with Mr Massawe, who also acts as my local point of contact, allowing me to provide sponsorship funding for the gorgeous 6 year old Editha Paskal Mbada. Editha was a shining star in my class at Kilimahewa and upon learning of her almost inevitable future of poverty and starvation, Mr Massawe helped me arrange for her to complete her Education through reputable local English Medium Boarding School.
I always felt there was more that I could do to help support this wonderful small school and in 2011, through the generosity and kindness of my family and friends, with $3000 I headed back to Tanzania to work with Mr Massawe to complete some small sustainability projects.(see 2011 Projects).
We all have own own lives, jobs, friends and families that command most of our time, but I have come to realise that for me to make a difference, I don't need to setup a huge charity nor commit to ongoing provision of large amounts of funding. The key is sustainability, and helping Mr Massawe build the framework to build his dream and provide a valuable service to the local community.
