In 2016 The KOALA Project is looking to raise $10,000 to continue our great work and complete some exciting new projects.

With the arrival of a new baby this year, Sara will not be travelling to Tanzania in 2016.  This however, does not mean the work stops !  We are pleased to welcome our  local project co-ordinator, Mama Fatuma who will be helping us to ensure we complete our key projects for this year

KILIMAHEWA LIBRARY

We have been incredibly lucky to receive a donation of Library books to enable us to set up our school Library. Mr JL Shaw from California and his family very generously paid for over 8000 books and are arranging the freight to get the books from USA to Tanzania.
The KOALA Project believes reading is a critically important part of any child's education, and should be accessible to all children not just those in the developed world. We are working with Mr Massawe to ensure we build a great facility, in which our books will be looked after and be a valuable learning resource for all the children of Kilimahewa for many years to come. In 2015 we began construction of the library. We are making great progress, but still need to raise more money to allow us to complete the building and purchase library furniture such as book shelves, chairs etc

PRIMARY ACCREDITATION

Now that we have 5 fully functioning classrooms, and the new toilet block we can progress with our application to become an accredited Independent English Medium Primary School.
The KOALA Project is working closely with Mr Massawe to complete this application, providing assistance in completing the business case when required. There is also considerable fees associated with this submission which The KOALA Project will be contributing too.

MEDICAL CHECKS AND NUTRITION SEMINARS

Picture
In 2013 we commenced annual health checks for the children of Kilimahewa School. Most of the families in the Kilimahewa community rarely visit a Doctor or hospital as it can be expensive, nor do they have access to basic health and nutrition advise. We hope with regular school check ups we can treat and prevent any serious illness that may arise.
We are also now conducting Nutrition seminars for parents in the community, where the parents are invited to meet the Doctor and listen to valuable advise about nutritional and how to care for their children.
